ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. The Berlin Wall made sure communist citizens could not escape East Germany and we were trying to get rid of Communists. The wall showed that Communism is not good at all. They wanted to stop communism. Living conditions became very different. Many people in East Germany wanted out because they could no longer stand the repressive living conditions of East Germany, they would pack up their stuff and hope that they would make it over to West Germany because the living conditions were a lot better there.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war because, of all the catastrophe it caused. The Berlin wall made sure communist could not escape East Germany. It proved its point by having strict personnel guarding it at all times, and used sever punishment usually death if trying to leave your side. There were many casualty's from people trying to escape the communist side of the wall. This was all caused by people getting feed up being in East Germany and having to live under the communist laws. So people tried to escape the communist side and were shoot doing so. Overall the Berlin wall was a major disruption to all of Germany, but it later on fell 1989.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of freedom in the Cold War for various reasons. Nearly 200 people died trying to escape the east side of Berlin, into the west. This shows that many people despised Communism and wanted to live in a free Capitalist world. One of the reasons for this war was to stop communism, the people of Berlin alone tried hard enough. Not only did many people die for freedom, but they died for their families. The wall separated many from their family and friends. The people of Berlin had no intentions on giving up, they want ed to be happy. For some that was enough to escape, for others, motivation was their family on the other side. This will power from the people helped bring the wall down and it will be in history for the rest of our lives.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. Germany and Berlin (the capital) were divided into communist and capitalist sides. Many people on the communist side were escaping to the capitalist side since there was nothing holding them back. The wall was built from one night to the next, by construction workers and soldiers, in-order to reduce chances of people escaping to the West side. People were separated from: their lovers, their families, and their jobs.

ReplyDeleteThe berlin wall was a powerful symbol to the madness that happened during the time the communist didnt want their people to leave because they were losing people. when they put up the berlin wall they made sure that the communist did not cross to the side of west berlin, if they tried to cross to the other side they would be captured and punbished or even killed. Many people died tryin to cross to the other side and many others mad it to the other side safe. The berlin wall helped seperate the capitalist and the communist. In 1989 the goverment decided to destroy the wall and everything was over.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. The Berlin wall existed for 28 years and during that time frame, about 80 people died trying to get over the wall. This shows that Russia was willing to go to extremes to keep capitalism from spreading. The would rather kill people than let capitalism from spreading. Another reason why is the Berlin Wall, like the cold war, separated communism and capitalism. The Berlin Wall separated the United States (capitalist) and the USSR (communist) and the cold war was between the same countries. The Cold War is a larger scale of what went on in Berlin because in both cases the countries didn't want the others way of government to spread.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War in many different ways. First off the wall spit communist from captitalist. The reason for this was to keep the communist to stay communist because they couldnt escape and go to West Berlin. This relates to the Cold war in a way because it shows how intense it is to have half the town seperated, and how the people wanted to be capitalist. The Berlin wall made sure that East Germany citizens could not escape and leave to a capitalist country so they could have a popular country of communist, and "hopefully" over rule capitalism.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. The wall showed that people from East Germany could not leave to West Germany. Even though the security was tight, over 5,000 people successfully over it. This was important because with all the people coming over from East Germany it boosted West Germany's economy. The wall was all so an important symbol because it separated the Communists and the Capitalists. This was good because of the 5,000 people who made it over the wall only 100-200 people died. That's over 5,000 jobs the West is able to create and give to people in need.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. The Wall made sure that communist citizens could not escape East Germany. Since we were trying to get rid of communism, having this wall up made it even tougher because then communist citizens who wanted to become capitalist couldn't and they would be forced to fight against us instead of with us. Another reason The Berlin Wall was powerful is because many families were seperated at this time. Many families were seperated for decades and were forced to live by that government and they didn't have the choice. Therefore if some of your family was on the communist side they had to live in harsh conditions. The people were torn apart from their lovers, friends, family, neighbors, and even co-workers. Therefore the Berlin Wall had many harsh effects on the Cold War.
The Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war. Families were separated from their lovers because of the Berlin Wall put up by the communist East Germany it completely encircled west Berlin and the rest of East Germany, dividing it into four different zones.people were happy before they put the Berlin Wall up until they got separated and were not able to see their families for a really long time. 5,000 people made it across the Berlin Wall safely and were reunited with their families and the ones that didn't make it across were killed.Because of the Berlin Wall situation and the separation of the east and west Germany people were killed trying to cross the wall, but they truly were reunited until the Berlin Wall fell down.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol because it related directly to communism and capitalism. The wall separated E. Germany, communist, from W. Germany, capitalist. In being that the Cold War was between Communists and Capitalist beliefs, the Berlin Wall contributed greatly. It prevented E. Germany citizens from becoming part of W. Germany. Many wished to be in W. Germany because life was a much more satisfactory and worth living. The Wall caused many hardships between family's as well. It prevented loved ones from seeing and communicating with one another for many years. E. Germany rulers were so determined to keep people in their limits because of the vast decline in citizens. On which ever side you went to sleep on the night that the wall was established was where you were stuck till it came down.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war because like the cold war the communists and capitalists. The Berlin wall made sure that the communist citizens could not escape E. Germany. Communism keeps communism is a bad thing and it keeps people enslaved and stupid. many people died trying to climb over the wall into west Berlin. The wall shows that communism is not good and no body likes communism.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall is a powerful symbol of the Cold War. It divided the communist from the east side and the capitalist from the west. The Berlin Wall made sure the communist citizens could not escape and we were trying to get rid of communist. The wall shows that communisms not good.
one reason for the wall was to stop communism while the people try and stop it. (part 1/2)

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war, because the Berlin Wall, like the Cold War, separated communism from capitalism. The Berlin Wall was put up in one night as a start and went through four stages. The first night, it was just a barbed wire fence, but obviously that wasn't enough to keep people from crossing. The next few days the wall became stronger with cement blocks, then guards, and finally a rounded, cylindrical tube at the very top. When the Cold war started, one argument wasn't going to be strong enough to keep people from switching. As time went one there were many arguments and they may have gotten stronger and more thought out. Because the wall was so powerful, the communist citizens could not escape from East Germany nor East Berlin. There had been many attempts and while most were successful, some were not and and many people didn't even try. The wall was much too strong. However, over time the communist block became weak, so the wall was destroyed and the people rejoiced. Through the many years of the cold war, the capitalist side showed signs of being stronger and by the end, more countries were capitalists instead of communists.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war because it demonstrates that capitalist and communist are very different. Berlin was divided into 2; communist(U.S.S.R) and capitalist(U.S). The wall was built to separate the communist from the capitalist. The U.S.S.R was trying to make people believe that communism was the way to go but that only made people want to go to the capitalist side. The Berlin wall like the cold war showed people where they had more rights and freedom. East Germany built the wall around West Berlin so communist citizens wouldn't flee into capitalist West Berlin. So West Berlin ended up being like a cage, but instead of being bad the cage ended up being where people wanted to be.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall construction was a powerful symbol in the cold war. Both events showed the conflict between Communism and Capitalism. the berlin wall construction, like the Cold war, separated Communism and Capitalism. In the cold war, the capitalists were trying to stop the spread of communism. In Berlin, during the Berlin wall construction, people tried to escape communist Berlin for a better life in capitalist Berlin. Many parents and children were separated from the rest of their families when the wall was built over night. this devastated these families because they couldn't see their families for years.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol. The Berlin wall made sure that the Communist couldn't escape over to the western side where the Capitalist were. The wall was put up to divide the Capitalist from the Communist. We were trying to get rid of Communist. If someone from the eastern(communist)side tried to escape over to the western(capitalist)side they would get shot by the guards who stood at the communist side of the wall.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol because many families got separated and only one side had freedom, which was west Berlin. The other side was east Berlin and people had a very hard time living especially when they tried to cross the wall to see their loved ones. The Berlin wall was constructed by the German Democrat Republican on August 13, 1961 that completely surrounded all East Germany from West Germany. At first it was made of Barbed Wire then they started to put concrete block which made it harder for them to cross. 5,000 people made it saftley across but 200 died. Some used a lot of ways to get out like using cars, trucks, buses, and , other vehicles to ram the wall over.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall is a symbolic representation of the cold war because the wall is basically a despute between communist and capitalist powers. Instead of capitalism trying to contain communism, communism tried to contain capitalism. In the effort to stop people from leaving communist east Berlin into capitalist west Berlin. East Germany even cut off supplies to west Berlin. leaving only the allies to supply goods and recourses. It also represents the Cold War because people were trying to get away from communism in order to have a better future and have choices.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a big part of the cold war because there were family separated because of the wall. They started to bild the wall while every one were sleping. They thought that it would but a great why so not every one would go to the other side. People tried to get over the wall but only 5,000 people made it safely, 200 died. Some used a lot of ways to get out like using cars, buses, and other vehicles to ram the wall.
Nick.M The Berlin wall was a powerful symbol in the cold war because it separated communism from capitalism.its been estimated that only 5,000 people made it safely to the capitalists side from the communist side in some cases people would jump out of 2 store windows to try to get on the other side of the wall most times they would just full to there death,or get shot if they survived the fall.one of the reasons that people left east Germany was because of there family and the most of the people did not wont to be control by some one else

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war. it separated capitalism which was the west, and communism which was the east of Germany. Because the west was capitalist they thrived with food and goods, but because the east was communist people were starving and they were falling. 2.5 million people emerged to the west, so Stalin put up the Berlin wall so no one could get to the west, or the east. This shows how bad Stalin really was, and how the Berlin wall made a big factor in the Cold War.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War because of the many affects that it had on the world. One example was that it separated Berlin into two different sections. The West had a Capitalist democracy and the East had a Communist democracy. What this did was allowed the West to thrive and live amazing lives but the people of the East led lives of fear and could not do anything that they wished to do. Their lives were chosen for them. Before the wall was put up, more then 2.5 million people fled to West Berlin to find better lives. This showed how the Communist leader, Stalin, was a very horrible leader and didn't do what the people wanted to do and didn't allow them to lead their lives the way they wanted to. The Berlin Wall was almost a replica of the Cold War.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. The Berlin Wall separated Berlin in half, by dividing the communist east side from the capitalist west side. This caused the separation of family and friends on opposite sides of the wall. All of this is a powerful symbol of the Cold War because it showed that the fight between communism and capitalism can literally divide a country in half. Also, the wall showed that the Cold War was truly devastating for families, and how desperate some leaders are to stop the spread of communism and keep separation between the two governments.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a symbol of the struggle between Capitalism and Communism during the Cold War. The wall was put up on 8/13 1961 to keep people from the east Communist side from escaping to the capitalist side. The people on the east side of the wall suffered, and often tried to escape to the capitalist west side. The wall was demolished on 11/9 1989 and there was a big celebration of feedom.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war. The Berlin wall was symbol of the separation between communist and capitalism. Many families and friends were separated by the Berlin wall.because of all the things that were happening in Berlin.About 2.5 million people emigrated to west Berlin before the wall was put up.And that shows how hostile Stalin was while in control.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol to the Cold War. The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the separation of governments between capitalists and communists in Germany as well as in the city of Berlin located in the communist side. The communist or the Soviet Union got East Germany as well as East Berlin, while the capitalist or the United States, France and Great Britain got West Germany and West Berlin. Due to the bad living conditions that West Germany offered about 2.5 million people escaped before the Berlin Wall was created. In the midnight of August 13-14, 1961 The communists created a wall around West Berlin. This wall created separation of families and friends within the city of Berlin. This was devastating to these families because they couldn't see their relatives and friend for almost 3 decades. After 28 years of suffering the Berlin Wall was finally destroyed on 9 November 1989, This was a great victory to the not only the capitalist but to the whole people residing in Germany.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol in the cold war because it separated Berlin half communist (East) half capitalist (West). So many people had left to west Berlin that east Berlin was forced to put up the Berlin wall, to save the east part of Berlin before all of their citizens were gone. 2.5 million people had left to west Berlin before the wall was put up. Many people obviously thought west Berlin was a better way of living so the east definitely had to do something fast.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war due to how communism and capitalism were separated.Communist were on the east Germany and east Berlin, capitalist were west Germany and west Berlin.the communist side of Germany and Berlin was controlled by the USSR while west Germany was controlled by the us,great Britain and France which influenced capitalism.the life was hard in the east. people wanted to migrate to the west until the Berlin wall was built which blocked them from going into west berlin and flying to west Germany.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the coldwar. The wall divided the communist from capatalist and families were split in two.
The Berlin wall was built to separate east Berlin, which was communist, from West Berlin, which was Capitalist. When Stalin discovered that there was an average of 2.5 million people emigrating from East Berlin to West Berlin before the wall was put up, he demanded that the wall be built to prevent people from running to the capitalist side of Germany.
The Berlin wall was put up practically overnight. the people who fell asleep on the west side stayed on the West side and people on the east stayed on the east, which split hundreds of families. Since the Berlin Wall was built so quickly it did not give people a chance to get back to their homes on the East or West part of Germany. Leading to people being stuck on one side while their families were in the other. Soon all communications were cut off leaving people only with memories of their family and friends.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol because it showed the separation of capitalism and communism. After the war Berlin separated into 2 sides, the west being capitalist and the east communist. A wall was built to separate each side. The wall was built in one night, witch ever side you slept on that night you where stuck there. 5,000 people where estimated made it safely, unfortunate 200 people didn't. They wall was brought down in 1989 because of the lack of money and rage of other countries on the soviet. This shows a powerful symbol of the Cold War because it shows the separation of communism and capitalism.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war. In 1961 to 1989 East Germany was a communist country and West Germany was capitalist country. Being two different beliefs the East Germany dictator separated both sides by building a wall... the Berlin Wall. Before the wall was built 2.5 million people emigrated to West Germany knowing how hostile the communist government was. The wall was getting way to out of control having crazy escape attempts and successes. Like jumping out of windows to get to the other side, or digging a hole to the other side, also putting a rope on the other side and going over. Thankfully by 1989 the wall came down and people celebrated!

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. On the night of Aug. 12 through part of the early morning of Aug. 13,1961 the first Berlin Wall was built to separate the Communists from the Capitalists of Germany. The German leaders wanted to separate Capitalists and Communists in order to gain more power and to rule. The wall was like a prison, keeping the East Germans in. They didn't let them choose for themselves nor let them communicate to West Germany where their friends and most of all to their families lived free and would be separated for decades. Also, the wall showed that the Cold War was truly devastating for families and showed how desperate some leaders were in order to keep people separate between the two governments.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin was a powerful symbol of the cold war because it kept communist east Berlin from capitalist west Berlin from invading each other. West Berlin was the place that people want to be no mater how much Russia told them that being communist was the way to go. Before the wall was built 2.5 million people left west Berlin to escape the communism that was trying to spread to their homes. That is why the Berlin wall was such an important symbol during the cold war. 0o0

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war. Different governments caused a huge controversy between Russia and the United states. When we look at the city of Berlin we see a peaceful city that has a a lot of history. Unfortunately, in the year of 1961, the Berlin Wall was built for a idiotic reason. Before this wall was built 2.5 million East Berlin citizens emigrated to the Capitalist side of West Berlin. The anger of the Cold War at that time caused the 12 feet tall, 4 feet wide, wall was established. The East side was communist while the West side of Berlin was capitalist. Many loved ones were separated causing a huge number of people trying to escape, ending in death. Many citizens were shocked of what was happening, they hoped that this was all just a dream and one day they would wake up and everything would be back to normal. That day eventually came on October 3, 1989; everyone knew that this"never-ending" war was over. And finally, all the people of the city of Berlin was reunited as one.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. The largest way that the Berlin wall impacted the Cold War was its separation of communism and capitalism. The government in communist East Berlin (and East Germany) was worried about losing its citizens to capitalist West Berlin (and, again, West Germany in general) because before the Berlin wall was erected in August 1961, 2.5 million East Berlin citizens had emigrated to West Berlin. After the wall was built, overnight, the lives of all of Berlin's citizens had been changed. Families, friends, and lovers alike had all been separated without warning; the side where you went to sleep the night of August 12, was where you stayed.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war, by the way it represented the tense friction between the Western allies and the Soviet Union. Like the fighting between the Soviet union and the western allies in the Cold war, the Berlin wall caused a split between western capitalist and soviet communist. During the Cold war, communist countries were in horrible conditions due to their bad economies and abhorrent leaders, because of this many people escaped from there country to a better capitalist country. Just like after WWII, right before the wall went up, when 2.5 million Germans emigrated from the failing east to the booming west, because of the inadequate leadership and the doomed economy.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War because it shows the differences between Capitalism & Communism.
The wall was built in 1961 by the East side of Berlin (Communists) after 2.5 million citizens emigrated to West Berlin for freedom. This example shows how hostile communist leaders, like Stalin, are. Many people desperately tried to escape from the terrible and isolated living conditions by trying to jump over, tunnel under or scale the wall. Many citizens made it over, but about 200 people died trying to get to freedom.
In conclusion, the Berlin Wall seperated Capitalism & Communism in many ways.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war because it literately and figuratively split the people of East(communist) and West(capitalist) Berlin. People had a difficult time getting home or getting free(whichever the case may be)because the wall was 12ft high, 4ft wide concrete slabs topped with a pipe(for stopping people from scaling the wall) and equipped with very few Checkpoints(gates) that were heavily guarded. Not to mention there was guard dogs and a second wall that was parallel to the main one as extra protection. Only around 5,000 people managed to get over the massive wall during its entire life ranging from underground digging to hot air-balloon travel. The Berlin Wall was definitely A powerful symbol of the Cold war and The world is much better off without it.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. The Wall caused separation between family and friends within East and West Berlin. Built to keep East Germany citizens from leaving the communist country, the Berlin Wall showed the true hostility of the war, when families and loved ones were cut off from each other entirely. The Wall was a landmark that showed the visual separation between the communist and capitalist rule. People tend to react and realize a situation more when a visual is given. The Wall was a the visual of the separation,(whether the true purpose or not) showing the small island of capitalist West Berlin, surrounded by the vast sea of communist East Germany. People cut off from their families, and being physically divided gives the Cold War a shocking symbol of severance.
Taylor K
ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War that not only acted as a physical barrier but a political and emotional blockade as well. It was a cage that separated capitalism from communism where those inside were free. Despite being confined in West Berlin, citizens within the Berlin Wall boundaries were actually living better lives. They had a growing economy where the people were allowed to run their own businesses. Citizens also had the right to vote and voice their opinions to the government without harsh penalizations unlike East Berlin. West Berlin became a "capitalist island" surrounded by a "communist sea." Barbed wire fences were soon revolutionized into 12 foot concrete walls. This enhanced the effect of a barricade isolating those in East Berlin who wanted to emigrate into West Berlin in order to be free. Four foot thick concrete walls cut off families and friends. One night caused loved ones to be secluded from each other for decades to come. Not only did the Wall act as an obstruction between different governments, it disjointed the connection of friends and family. The Berlin Wall truly resembled a powerful symbol of the Cold War.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war because it separated capitalist(east) and communistic (west) communities. The Berlin wall was built over night on August 12-13 1961. The Berlin wall ended up separating families and friends, many people tried talking to their families across the wall by sign language. The east Berlin government soon put a stop to that as well. before the Berlin wall was put up 2.5 million people escaped. Many people had heard rumors of the wall being built so they ran to west Berlin to be free before the wall could be built and they would be trapped.
Sierra B.
ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol in the cold war. The Berlin wall physically divided Berlin into two parts, the East was communist and the West was capitalist. East Germany cut off necessary supplies of West Berlin. Stalin was known as very a very hostile leader. 2.5 million Germans fleed to West Germany before the wall was built in 1961. After the wall was built, 12 ft high and 4 ft wide, escaping was nearly impossible. People who tried to escape to West Germany by climbing the 12 ft high wall either fell to their deaths or were shot to death by guards.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. It showed or represented the separation of ideology. The Wall represented the seperation between the Capitalists and Communists. The Berlin Wall was a symbol showing the pure resolute power of the Communists. It shows this resolute power because they would kill anyone that would try to escape, without mercy. All in all the Berlin Wall is a symbol that will be remember throughout the world.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war, because it divided Berlin and clearly defined the two sides of the Iron Curtain. East Germany was communist and 2.5 million people fled to West Germany before the wall was built. The Soviet government wanted to prevent their citizens from fleeing. They blockaded West Berlin so nothing could go in and out. Then, on the night of August 13, 1961 the wall went up. It went through four major over a few years changes and by the last change it was four feet wide and twelve feet tall. It was a clear border between the capitalist side of the Iron Curtain and the Communist side. It was like an unimagined equator that was not drawn on a map.
The fear within East Berlin was caused because of the potential of being turned in to Stalin for saying something. Everything was drab and miserable. The Berlin Wall came down it 1989, but it still remains a terrible memory of the cold war

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war. The people of Berlin approximately 2.5 million people left before they had put the wall up. IN Berlin they had been split it into two on August 1961. When they had split Berlin, which ever side you were that night then that was the side you would stay. Berlins was split into communist(east) and capitalist(west). In the 1989 was when the wall had been taken down and west and east Berlin family and friends were reunited.

ReplyDeletethe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war as it has shown the constant fight of communist VS. capitalist. After world war two Germany was divided into four equal parts. This would later become east VS. west. This proves that everywhere you look it was Communist VS. capitalist. As it was divided the East put up a wall to finally completely dividing the east from the west, but people still tried to cross to the west. The east saw this and improved the the wall. but as the wall progressed so did the escape attempts. This shows how bad it was in the East part of Germany, and of the constant struggle of communist VS. capitalist.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War showing the separation of a country split my communism and capitalism. The Berlin Wall shows separation because people were sparated overnight. They were separated from their families, from jobs, from schools, ect. over night. From 1949-1961, 2.1 million people fled to West Germany for freedom before the wall was put up. After the wall was put up, about 80 people died trying to get over the wall to freedom. This shows how desperate people were to get to the capitalist side, to freedom.
Dawson Q.
ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War by creating hardship for the people who lived in Berlin. After World War II, East and West Berlin separated. East being Communist and West being Capitalist. East Berlin was losing many of citizens because it was Communist. Angry, East Berlin built a big wall dividing East and West. The wall wrapped around all of West Berlin so that none of the people living in a capitalist country or state could get access to freedom. Besides losing their freedom, people who had jobs and families in West Berlin could no longer attend their everyday activities. After many long years of poor living and people dying trying to escape. The Wall was destroyed and both East and West Berlin were in union once again.
Jamie L.
ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War, considering the many memories that were made from it and the effects the wall had on people. The people from East Berlin tried to escape from the West by finding a way to get over the wall, however more than 80 people died in the process of trying to flee. They tried to flee for life in East Berlin and East Germany was tough compared to how the western parts of these places were. This was the reason so many people risked trying to escape. The Berlin wall also separated the communist and capitalists of Berlin. The people of Berlin really had no choice to which side they were on, for one morning the wall was there, and people were not allowed to cross.
Mabel R.
ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war because a lot of people want to cross the wall to find liberty because of the poor lifestyle.
The Berlin wall separated people from their families and jobs.
In 1949-1961 million people fled to West Germany for freedom over 80 people died.
The Berlin wall did prevent the majority of east Germans from emigrating to the west, but it did not prevent them all.
The fall of Berlin wall happened nearly as suddenly as its rise.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war do to the conversion of democracy and communist between West and East Germany. The soviet union controlled the eastern part of the country while the US, Great Britain and France controlled the western part which soon united into political division. Many people tried to escape East Berlin and go over the Berlin wall to go to West Berlin in order to gain freedom. In 1949-1961 2.7 million people fled to West Germany for freedom, over 80 people died. Life in West Germany was way better than in East Germany. Most risked their life in order to get to West Germany for a better life, human rights and freedom.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerful symbol of the cold war because a lot of people got affected by it. For example, it separated people from their families and jobs. Since a lot of people, got separated from their loved ones they had to find a way to talk to each other. Another example would be when approximately 2.7 million people fled to West Germany for freedom. Some didn't even make it across. They either got shot or got caught by the guards. That's what makes the Berlin Wall a powerful symbol of the cold war.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War. It symbolized the silent struggle between the capitalists and the communists. The capitalists had a better economy and the government didn't tell them what they had to do while the communists side was struggling. 2.7 million people escaped to the capitalist side before the wall was built. Sadly 80 people died while trying to get to the free side of the wall. What ever side you went to sleep on between August 12-13 you were stuck on unless you escaped. Some people tried crazy things to try to get to the other side of the wall like making an air balloon out of silk. This shows how desperate people were to get to freedom.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War by showing the boundary that not only split a nation in two, but exemplified rival communist and capitalist governments. After World War II, Germany was in shambles. The USSR and the USA split the country in two, converting the east into communists and the west into capitalists. The Cold War revolved around these two rival countries trying to spread their beliefs. Germany became a magnified view of the situation. After these changes were made, 2.7 million people fled eastern Germany while hundreds died trying to escape. The citizens were not content with how their country had become. Actually, they probably resented the wall, because it was what had torn their country apart. The Berlin Wall was the pivotal point in all of this this, the difference between two governments, and the control of Germany.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War, this represented the struggle for the Germans to find freedom and escape communism. Germany was split to half communist and half capitalist. East Germany was controlled by the Soviet Union and was the communist side. Many people were separated from their jobs, their family, and worst of all, some Germans lost their rights and some of their freedom. Between 1949 and 1961, about 2.1 million people fled to West Germany. Over eighty people died. As a result for the amount of people leaving communist Germany, The USSR built the Berlin Wall. It then became harder for people to escape East Germany. Several people attempted to escape, some prevailed, but some failed. Evidently, people prefer a government where their citizens have rights. Citizens seek to find freedom, that they will even escape or die for liberty. Obviously, liberty is the greatest gift a human being can obtain from a government.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a very powerful symbol of The Cold War. It represented the desperation of East German citizens and the constant struggle between Communism and Capitalism. 1941-1961 2.7 million people fled to West Germany and West Berlin for freedom. Eventually, a wall was built trapping all East Germans. Over 80 people died trying to escape the West Berlin. The Berlin Wall showed how desperate people were to escape the harsh lifestyles of Communism. In an attempt to keep people in the country, and stop the massive Emigration, communist Germany actually trapped its citizens. At the end of Wold War 2, East Germany was controlled by Communist Russia and West Germany was Capitalist. Eventually, the two divided. Germany was just a small scale representation of the dividing effects of Communism and Capitalism on people. The Berlin Wall had many profound effects on the citizens of Germany and the World, making it a powerful symbol of The Cold War.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War and showed the struggles people fought through with a communist nation. Between 1949 and 1961 2.7 million people fled from communism East Germany to Capitalist West Germany. The reason for this was many people lost their jobs, and all goods from East Germany were taken away, by the USSR so people fled away. This resulted in the Berlin Wall being put up. After the wall was put up people were separated from their families and either living in freedom or communism. Overall people living in West Germany and West Berlin had freedom to do what they wanted while people being trapped in East Germany were controlled entirely by communist East Germany.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin Wall was a powerful symbol of the Cold War due to the fact that it represented the hardship, fear, and suffering the people endured. Between the years of 1949 and 1961 over 2.7 million East Germans fled to West Germany in fear that if they stayed they would one day never be free again. In 1961 that fear come true, and over 80 people lost there lives in the attempt for freedom. Germans found themselves fighting for there freedom after practically being divided into two separate, and different worlds. When the Wall was put up it cut through 62 city streets, and 131 country roads making it impossible for people to see family and friends who were on the opposite side of the Wall. Along with people who commuted to and from work across the border. Lives were ruined and people felt scared, hurt, upset and worried. The Berlin Wall showed how drastically peoples lives changed when there choice for living a capitalist life or a communist life were stripped from them.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a powerfull symbol of the cold war. Not only did it show the rivary between East(communist)and West(Capitalist) Berlin, but it showed the struggles and sacrifices that people made. Around 2.7 million people immigrated to West Berlin during 1949-1961.As more and more people left to the west, the communist government decided to make a drastic decision. In 1961 the boarder was closed and they built a physical barrier over night preventing people from getting to either side of the wall. The people who were not able to flee had to stay on the side they slept on forever. West Berlin was completley cutt off from the rest of East Germany. This not only impacted the people but it also had a huge impact on the world. While some people still kept hope for this one day to be over, some could no longer bare it. With no choice of being communist or capitalist, some put their lives on the the line just to cross the wall to the capitalist side. While some were very sucessful others could just not find escape. More than 20 years later news spread like wild fire. News that they never thought they would hear again, the boarders were open for everyone. The wall was destroyed in 1989 and family and friends were reunited after years of seperation. Tears, hugs, and joy united them again!

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall was a very powerful symbol of the Cold War. People were crossing over from east to West Germany by way of West Berlin in the thousands. The Berlin wall was built in the course of a single night. The communists were willing to do any thing to keep people away from their capitalist rivals; they shot anyone who attempted to escape over the wall to capitalism. The communists weren't afraid to admit that they were the boss on their side of town. The Cold War was a battle of ideals. Each side was trying to win over people to their cause. Capitalists used the benefits of joining their side to win people over. Communists used fear. They basically said the penalty for defection, was death. The Berlin wall was the embodiment of the Cold War's conflict. People made a choice when they tried to cross the wall; they took the ultimate gamble in an attempt for a better life. The wall made people choose communism or capitalism and that is why it was a powerful symbol of the Cold War.
